Who Handles the Testing

All asbestos testing, reporting, insurance, and liability is handled by:

What is Asbestos and Why is It Dangerous?

Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring fibrous minerals used in thousands of building materials from the 1950s through the 1990s. They commonly show up in drywall mud, vinyl flooring, popcorn ceilings, pipe wrap, attic insulation and more. The issue shows up when the materials get disturbed.

When asbestos fibers become airborne, they get inhaled and lodge in lung tissue. Long-term exposure can lead to asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. There is no safe level of long-term exposure so that’s why health and environmental regulatory standards across Alberta treat it as a serious hazard.

If your Calgary home was built in the 1990s or earlier, asbestos may still be hiding in the walls, ceilings or attic. This isn’t something you can see by looking. Only sample testing by trained professionals can confirm.

Signs You Need a Calgary Asbestos Inspection

Schedule a Calgary asbestos inspection before you start of any of the following;

  • Renovation or demolition in a home from the 1990s or prior
  • Removing flooring, ceilings or attic material
  • A real estate transaction on an older property
  • Cleanup after water, fire or storm damage
  • Any project where you’ll disturb building materials in older buildings

Did you start a project and uncover something suspicious? Popcorn ceiling crumbs, fluffy gray-white attic material or unfamiliar fibrous board are things to worry about. Stop work and give us a call. Don’t sweep, vacuum or try to bag it up yourself.

Our Certified Asbestos Testing Process: Bulk Sampling Done Right

Every asbestos test we do follows the same documented process. There are no shortcuts. Here’s what we do step-by-step:

  1. Site Walkthrough: Our technician inspects the property, identifies suspect materials and maps out where samples should be taken.
  2. Bulk Sampling: Following industry protocols, we carefully collect samples of suspect drywall, flooring, ceiling material or pipe wrap. Each sample is sealed, labelled and chain-of-custody tracked.
  3. Air Quality Testing (When Needed): For occupied buildings, post-renovation clearance or sites where damage has already happened, we collect air samples to measure fibre concentration.
  4. Lab Analysis: Samples are sent to an accredited asbestos lab. We don’t do in-house “quick checks” because that’s not a reliable asbestos assessment.
  5. Written Report: You receive a plain-language report with the lab results, photos and clean next-step recommendations.

For Contractors: Test Before You Cut

If you’re a plumber, electrician, renovator or restoration crew working in a Calgary home built in the 1990s or sooner, do not cut anything before testing for asbestos. One uninformed drywall cut can release fibers into a customer’s home and put your crew, your client and your insurance at risk.

We make pre-cut sample testing simple:

  • Mark Each Cut Location with Blue Tape Squares: Clearly outline where you plan to cut.
  • Write “NEED SAMPLE” Plus the Date and Your Initials: on each marked spot.
  • Call or Book Online: and let us collect the samples properly.

We only clear the specific areas tested. Full-house assessments must be requested separately and any new cut locations may need additional testing and a follow-up visit. This protects you and the homeowner as every spot tested is documented and every result is traceable.

If it was built in the 1990s or prior, always test and never guess.

What Happens If Asbestos is Found? Removal and Next Steps

If your samples come back positive for asbestos, there are a couple of options. Let’s talk about them.

Generally, the safest move is to leave the material alone and seal it. This is important, especially before major work or after damage. Restoration Restore takes care of abatement and full reconstruction in-house so we can move directly from testing into safe, code-complaint removal so you don’t need a separate remediation contractor.

Continuity matters. Both adjusters and homeowners like it. This keeps the project on track instead of stalling between trades.

Air Clearance After Asbestos Removal

Once the asbestos removal job is done, you need clearance space before the space can be re-occupied. We collect post-abatement samples and send them to the lab to confirm the area is safe. The rule protects everyone including your family, our crew and the next people who walk through the door.

Do You Need Asbestos Testing Before Selling Your Home?

While not legally required to sell a home in Alberta, if your home was built in the 1990s or sooner, a pre-listing test can prevent surprises during the buyer’s inspection. Disclosing what’s there and confirming what isn’t protects the deal and gives you peace of mind.

Is Your Testing Staff Certified?

Yes, every technician on our asbestos testing services team is trained in proper sampling, containment and regulatory requirements. Our project leadership has industrial hygiene backgrounds. Our owners, Emil and Mike, personally vet every person who steps onto a jobsite.
